For Assistant Coach Zachary Fischer, the AJFHL has never been just a league — it has been a community he has grown with for more than 13 years. From fan, to official, to coach, Fischer has seen firsthand how the league has evolved, strengthened, and become a meaningful part of female hockey in Alberta. Now, standing behind the bench, he brings that history, perspective, and passion into every game and practice.
A Team Fuelled by New Energy This season has brought an influx of new players to the roster — a shift that has sparked fresh enthusiasm and noticeable growth within the group.
“We have a lot of new players who joined the team and the league this year. It’s exciting to watch the skill and energy they bring to each game and practice. Watching the team come together as the season progresses has been very rewarding.” For Fischer, the most inspiring part is seeing how quickly the group has bonded, blending new perspectives with returning experience to form a team identity defined by effort, excitement, and resilience.
A League That Has Become Home Few people in the AJFHL have witnessed its evolution as closely as Fischer. His journey through multiple roles has given him a rare appreciation for what the league represents — opportunity, growth, and the love of the game.
“I’ve been involved with the AJFHL for well over 13 years as a fan, official, and now as a coach. I’ve seen how the league has grown and changed. Each season brings something new, and it’s incredibly exciting to be a part of the league every year.” To him, coaching is not just a responsibility — it is a privilege.
“It is a privilege to be part of both a team and league that fosters the growth of female hockey in Alberta.” Advice for the Next Generation Fischer’s message to young female hockey players is simple, but powerful — a reminder that success starts with personal belief.
“Confidence is key. If you trust in yourself and your teammates, you will be rewarded. When you play with confidence, you not only play better — you have more fun.” It is a mindset he has seen shape players at every level of the league, and one he hopes to continue instilling in the athletes he works with.
Success Beyond the Scoreboard While he did not define success directly, Fischer’s approach speaks for itself:
When a team grows together, plays with belief, and finds joy in their progression — that is victory.
