We are thrilled to announce the upcoming 3rd Annual Mental Health Memorial Game, hosted by the Lethbridge Eagles, scheduled for January 27th, where they will face off against the Cochrane Chaos. This event holds a special place in our hearts as we come together to raise awareness and support for mental health initiatives.
Over the last two years, the Eagles community has rallied together, raising an impressive $25,000 in support of Youth One, a local youth organization, and Companion Paws, an organization dedicated to providing mental health support dogs. Additionally, they are establishing the Eagles Mental Health Fund, designed to offer financial assistance to Eagles players, ensuring they can access vital mental health resources without financial burden.
The impact of these funds has been immense, contributing to the betterment of our community and fostering mental health awareness.
In February 2021, the Eagles community suffered a heartbreaking loss when former player Emily Middagh lost her battle with mental health. In her honour, the Eagles hosted their first Mental Health Memorial Game, and the tradition continues. Emily's legacy, marked by her fierce competitiveness, love for the game, and undeniable grit, serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of mental health support for athletes at every level.
This year, on January 27, 2024, the Eagles, in collaboration with local businesses, will host the third annual Mental Health Memorial Game. The aim is to bring the community together once again to continue the crucial conversation around mental health and suicide awareness.
